Our February Final Friday Art show will feature artist and poet Jeremy Burden.  This is one Final Friday event you don't want to miss.  Here's some information about the artist and his exhibit:

Jeremy A. Burden

A native step-son, Burden is a poet and spoken word artist.  His first collection of poetry, “The Trials of a Human Life”, was self-published in November 2000 and is available through all major booksellers.  In November 2002, Burden co-produced his first spoken word album, “Word Warrior”.  With his poetry, Burden has performed with the local artistic company The Heart of Art, competed and been a guest performer in the Wichita River Festival Poetry Slam and haunts the local underground poetry scene.

Burden has been drawing and painting since he left high school, however this marks his first exhibit.  Burden says that he received both his interest and talent from his father.  Mark Burden was an active painter, working in oils, throughout Burden’s childhood.

Exhibit: Scenes from A Life Invisible

The exhibit is comprises of six smaller pieces and a large centerpiece, done in acrylics.  In the exhibit, Burden draws from his experience as a survivor of child abuse.  The six smaller canvases showcase different periods from Burden’s life, while the seventh, larger piece showcases Burden’s vision of a survivor.

The name of the exhibit comes from Burden’s recent literary undertaking, the memoir titled “A Life Invisible”, which details Burden’s experiences as an abused child and the personal philosophy he has developed over the years that has helped him to survive.

Also on display is the original poem, “Mission: Failed”, written by Burden, the piece showcases the triumphant cry of a man who has survived.

Our  February Final Friday event will take place Friday, February 29th from 5PM to close.  It is free to attend
